Wax Notes | October 2015

For most people, the end of the year is a time for winding down but it seems to be speeding up for me! Lots to do, lots to do!

I am finished with my last two haul posts for CFTKR and SMT and will be scheduling them up in the next couple of weeks. Once those are published, it will really be just these fortnightly or monthly wax notes. Sometimes I do get tired of doing these but it also gives me a sense of satisfaction to see how much I have melted. My web presence will definitely be diminishing but I will still be making my rounds around my favourite blogs and commenting! So, hope to see you all around!

Yellow Rose (K's Kreations)
This scent performed better than the previous K's wax I had been melting. It was more sweet rose than tangy lemon. Medium throw, medium scent impact.

Berry Verbena (Ten Digit Creations)
This scent is intriguing, I quite liked it because it's not your usual berry scent. There was a really citrusy-herbal scent note throughout it. Medium throw, medium high scent impact.

Drink Me (The Bathing Garden)
The vanilla scent is the strongest note I am smelling, with a dab of cherry blossoms underneath. Medium high throw, medium high scent impact.

Green Apple (Thirty Street Wax)
This smells exactly like a Green Apple slurpee from 7-11. Tart and refreshing! Medium high scent throw, medium high scent impact.

Starbursts (Beezy Tarts)
Wow, this scent is sickly sweet, so sweet it makes my teeth hurt smelling this. And it does smell exactly like the sweet! Medium high throw, medium high scent impact.

Dippity Daze (K's Kreations)
Not much scent.

Jelly Beans (Crabby Candle Co.)
I quite like this scent but only if it didn't had that artificial plastic note underlying it. High scent throw, medium high scent impact.

Lavender Cupcakes with Honey Frosting (Rosegirls)
It's been awhile since I had a really good piece of wax melt in my room, it almost feels like all my wax had decided to weaken in strength and I was really worried that I should have melted through them quicker. But I am so glad that's not the case, and this Rosegirls' chunk is still throwing well. It's really sweet, with the honey frosting scent being a lot stronger for me than Lavender and Cupcakes.

Wax Notes | July 2015 (2)

A fairly quiet melting fortnight, I am working on melting up my first Vintage Chic Scents haul. I still can't get over how crazy it throws on an 11w warmer. It's going to be a quiet melting month in August because I am travelling with friends to Melbourne this coming week! It's going to be colddd there and I need to start packing!

Ice Palace Cookies (Vintage Chic Scents)
I was going through my stash and I noticed the VCS labels and cups were yellowing. Which got me worried about the wax itself. Well, I needn't have. The wax is throwing like a boss! I am melting in my office and this is throwing throughout the entire building! I am going to melting VCS in here for the foreseeable future!

Blueberry Noel Marshmallow (Sniff My Tarts)
Really yummy fruity scent. It's definitely more sweet-like than fruit-like. Throw is very poor on my 11w warmer though. I have to stand next to it to smell anything. Pity.

An Affair To Remember (Vintage Chic Scents)
I think this might be my first watermelon scent. It's sweet, girly and candy-sweet, and while I like this more than I thought I would, it's not my type of scent. The throw is ridiculously strong, throwing through the entire building as usual!

Backwoods Barbie (Vintage Chic Scents)
I really love this scent, the Satsuma note is so uplifting and energetic. I don't smell a straight Strawberry scent but I am sure it's sweetening and neutralising the acidic edge of Satsuma. High scent throw, medium scent impact.

Frozen Margarita (K's Kreations)
A pleasant, not-too-sour scent. Medium-low scent throw, medium scent impact.

Sugared Jasmine (Rosegirls)
I was getting ready myself for a soft sandalwood type Jasmine scent because that's how I noted in on cold sniff but on melting, it develops beyond the sandalwood to a clean, soapy Jasmine as well. Thankfully the scent impact is medium, which is totally cool with me because too strong of such a scent would be really hard to take! Scent throw is medium as well.

Wax Notes | Dec 2014

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! I hope you have happy plans for tonight, whatever it may be, a night out on the town or a cozy evening in with your loved ones. :)

I was really busy this December, preparing for an incredibly packed calendar of events for January. So rather than making two wax notes posts as I usually do, I got lazy and decided to just keep the posts running for the rest of the month. You don't mind, right? :)

You might notice as you scroll down this post that my cream warmer has suffered a little mishap. I was trying to knock out a particularly troublesome piece of wax when I got a little too enthusiastic and a chunk of the ceramic was broken off as well. Now it looks like someone took a chomp out of it!

Tuscan Fields (Thirty Street Wax)
Wow! This tart has barely melted and it's begin to throw like crazy! Sweet yet clean and green scent. Very slightly acidic but in a pleasant way. It also has a syrupy sweet quality to it. I love complex blends like these!

Zucchini Noel Surprise (Up The Creek)
I probably should have cut this chunk up in half but I was lazy and I wanted to test out the theory about small and large chunks and how it affects throw. My conclusion is less is more! I decided to melt this on a cool, rainy night and it was the perfect, mellow blend of sweet and spice for me. The throw was medium to medium-high but it didn't last beyond two tealights.

Blue Sugar Gin Martini (Two Timing Tart)
I am melting an entire 2oz cup but there is barely any scent. From what I can sniff, it's an interesting alcoholic blend. I would drink this. Hee!

Sinus Relief (Tiffany Candles)
This wax tarts from Tiffany's came just in time, I have been really congested today and after popping this in, I can feel my nose clearing! Refreshing! My mother claims she can smell this clear across the hall from my room into hers, which makes this wax very very high throwing indeed.

Candy Crush (Crabby Candle Co.)

To my nose, this is a sweet grape candy-like scent but with a twist - a little caramel sweetness mixed in. It's pleasant but not a scent that grabs me. Medium scent throw.

Candy Crush (Up The Creek)
I thought it would be interesting to melt two identically named scents in succession to find out if they might be the same scent oil. I think they might be the same but UTC's is slightly fruitier. This is a sweet fruity scent, not citrusy. Medium scent throw.

Pina Colada (Super Tarts) - Not pictured, I forgot to take a picture!
Weirdly, I keep thinking of cookies while it was melting. But I can also detect yummy, tropical pineapples and rum! I have come to associate Super Tarts with a high scent throw initially but it peters out later.

Just A Head Cold (Enchanted)
I had a really bad sneeze that day and I needed to try this out in hopes that it will help clear my stuffed up nose and throat. I am not sure if I am really stuffed up or the throw isn't very strong. But when it does get in my nose, I can feel it just go down my lungs! The second night I melted this, I decided I was definitely congested, the throw was incredibly strong!

Wax Notes | June 2014 (1)

It's been a little quiet around here lately but it's going to get exciting soon! My Rosegirls sampler pack was shipped out a couple of days ago! Yay! I am so excited that I am finally going to melt the two Rosegirls chunks I have received and been hoarding! (Note the multiple exclamation marks!)

I had been keeping a few of my earlier orders at my PO box as I waited for the Rosegirls sampler. I estimated that I was high enough on the Rosegirls list for my sampler to be shipped within my 60-day limit for my packages to be stored at the PO box, so I kept them there hoping that I would be able to consolidate my orders and save on the shipping. So together with RG, I am going to receive my first-ever Sniff My Tarts mystery bag, Enchanted Candle Co. and a Vintage Chic Scents flash sale winnings. WHOOHOO!

The next big excitement on the wax horizon is the re-opening of Rosegirls on 21 June, 11am CST. The timing works out perfectly for me because I am travelling to Hong Kong for work next week but will be back in time for the opening. I have already worked out my wishlist. Since this is my first potential order, I am terrified of the opening rush and I am not confident of blending, I am limiting myself to 10 bakery bags of Rosegirl blends. Hopefully my fingers will be fast enough to click in those 10 bags!

Onto what I have melted for the first half of June.

Still Not Ginger (Two Timing Tart)
I quite like this blend of orange and ginger, it's not bright and citrusy but more mellow which makes it easy on the nose. Medium-low throw.

Vanilla Lavender (Crabby Candle Co.)
My nose is a bit stuffed so I might not be getting the full picture with this tart but to me the vanilla is stronger than the very herbal lavender. I don't feel like this two scents are blending well together and by that I mean the particular Vanilla and Lavender oil used rather than the choice to blend these two scents. Medium throw.

Strawberry Shortcake (Ten Digit Creations)
I am trying to use up my really old TDC stash so I can justify buying more in future. Note that this tart is really really old, like 2 years old, so anything I say, take it with a huge dose of salt. I am detecting mostly strawberry but it's not a fruity strawberry, more jammy strawberry. TDC's throw is always good though, medium high!

Key Lime Pie (A Bit of Bliss) - Not pictured
This reminds me of a vanilla lime ice cream from my childhood but I am surprised that it's milkier than I expected. I don't get much of the pie. This is throwing really well with my 11w warmer  in the office, right out of the doors!

Fruity Pebbles (Up The Creek)
What an authentic scent this one is. It starts out strong but slowly peters out to medium-high throw. Unfortunately, the scent only lasted one tea light which is really short in my book.

Wax Notes | May 2014 (1)

Grape Fluff Blueberry Confetti Cake (Up The Creek)
The blueberry is so strong and totally to die for! It reminds me of blueberry waffles. I think the grape is all mixed in with it because I can't really detect it. Not much cake either. High scent throw!

Dried Apple Wreath (Ten Digit Creations)
I have been hoarding this for awhile and a conversation on Facebook finally made me cut into it. I seriously love this scent, it's not a juicy apple that screams of summer but a tart apple that conjures up autumn. Perfect for a home fragrance. But it's no longer available. :( Medium high throw with half a tart.

Blackberry Lemon Ice Cream (Front Porch Candle Co.)
This is a weird blend to my nose, I can't smell either the Blackberry or the Lemon, just something sweet. Very high scent throw though.

Pear (Front Porch Candle Co.)
I am not sure about most pears but the pears I do eat don't have as lovely a fragrance FP's Pear. One colleague commented that it smells like fruity bubblegum! I am melting this in the office and the scent throw is very high however the scent peters out faster than compared to The Bathing Garden's Lemon Rose Curd.

Captain Tightpants (Two Timing Tart - Old Wax Formula)
This is the type of scent to relax by, the rice flowers and sea salt blend into a delicate, powdery scent. I am liking how florals seem to blend really well with sea salt. Might have to investigate these type of blends further. I am melting two cubes, the scent throw took awhile to develop into a high throw! Strongest scent from TTT so far. Also, I have been melting it for 3 days (4 tealights) and it's still going strong!

Lemon Juniper (Two Timing Tart)
True to the cold throw, this is a fresh fizzy, citrusy scent. This tart is in TTT's new wax formula and i immediately noticed that it throws much better than the old wax formula. In fact, I am classifying this as a high throw. The throw is long-lasting too, I have been melting this for 2 days (4 tealights) and it's finally fading. I am impressed!

Destash / Act of Kindness from Sunnee

If you are reading my blog, chances are you are also reading Fragrance Obsessed, a wax blog written by a lovely lady Sunnee. When I stepped back into the wax world, Fragrance Obsessed was my bible. I learnt about so many new vendors and ordering methods. Besides the comprehensive posts, Sunnee also takes really beautiful photos of her wax hauls and keeps an interesting mix of anecdotes about her life and inspirations. I am so glad I took the first step in commenting on her blog, after back-and-forth comments on blogs, adding each other on Facebook and chatting occasionally, I really feel like Sunnee and I are now friends!

Sunnee had a destash recently on her blog where everyone could choose what they wanted on a first-come-first-serve basis. I managed to snag a few items during the free for all, I HEART WAX's Serendipty Peppermint 4-pack, Streetman Candle Co's Happy bundt  and Orchid Lake's Peanut Butter Cup. The rest of the items were picked out by Sunnee and they are awesome. I really like everything that she sent!

Beezy Tarts - Madam President Fresh, zesty citrus notes balanced out by feminine florals of jasmine, white rose, and freesia. Nuances of musks and ozonic notes are backed by a hint of sweet vanilla, ending with a warm amber base.
The musks and ozone are the strongest notes for me here, followed by the florals. Pretty!

Beezy Tarts - Icy Peppermint Sweet icy peppermint
Strong and sweet peppermint. I am going to cut this up and melt it by itself and maybe blend it with other stuff.

Beezy Tarts - Starburst Smells like a juicy Starburst!
Wow, this smells really like the sweet, amazing!

Beezy Tarts - Strip and Go Naked Oranges, lemons, limes and sweet berries.
SO GOOD! I can see why Sunnee loves this so much. This is a perfect summer scent, with all that fizzy citrus going around. Can't wait to melt this one.

I HEART WAX - Serendipity Peppermint
I am not a fan of Hello Kitty but they are rather adorable in wax form. This blend is yummy, the peppermint is strong but I can detect cherries, vanilla and a little coconut. I can see this becoming a night-time fave.

Lasting Scent Candles - Cactus & Sea Salt
I have had this scent from LSC before. Cactus & Sea Salt is my family's favourite scent!

Lasting Scent Candles - Tie Dye Red raspberry, meyer lemon, key lime, navel orange, vanilla bean ice cream and rock candy sprinkles
When I first saw this loaf on Sunnee's blog, I was amazed at how gorgeous it was. I wonder how LSC created this loaf, the colours are gorgeous. I am so happy to be able to try this out because it is one, amazing, fruity blend. Now I have a problem, how am I going to get more  LSC, why are you so difficult to order from!

Orchid Lake Candles & Soaps (now known as Wilma) - Peanut Butter Cup
I feel like I just opened up the peanut butter jar but there's also a slight artificiality to the peanut butter. I think PB and chocolate scents tend to be like that.

Rosegirls - Greased Lightning Strawberry Jam chunks, Strawberry Shortcake chunks and Cuppa Cake overpour
I am so excited to see that Sunnee picked out a Rosegirls chunk for me! Rosegirls chunks are really gorgeous, I intend to put in an order when they next open (must accumulate wax karma)! I am picking up on the strawberry jam and a cake note. Yums!

Streetman Candle Company - Happy Strawberries, pears, sugars and lilac blossom
This is the biggest piece of wax I have ever gotten! It didn't look so very huge on Sunnee's blog. Thank goodness I am loving this scent! The lilac blossoms blends so well with the fruits!

Up The Creek - Fruity Pebbles
I always thought Fruity Pebbles was another way of saying Fruit Loops but I googled for scent descriptions and I found out this is another cereal brand. It's very similar to Fruit Loops though, maybe less on the lemon and lime.

Haul | Memorial Sale

This is my first non-vendor sale haul, a winning lot from the Memorial Sale for Jessica in March. Audrey shipped it out really quickly and the Regional Rate A box was packed full of goodies! I was really looking forward to this package because there were so many vendors that I have never tried in here.

Candles From The Keeping Room - Coconut Milk & Lavender A sweet blend of coconut milk and lavender. Changes the lavender to almost a tropical flower
Mmm, I like this one. The lavender tends towards soapy (but not detergent). I don't smell coconut milk yet.

Candles From The Keeping Room - Orange Cream & Marshmallow
This is a yummy, bakery citrus!

Candles From The Keeping Room - Pink Sugar Milk A blend of our yummy sugar milk and pink sugar.
I can smell both the sugar milk and pink sugar equally. I am so excited to try a sugar milk blend!

Candles From The Keeping Room - Tropical Sugar A blend of delicious sweet fruit, sugars, whipped cream and a little vanilla.
This reminds me of a citrus powder soft drink. I am intrigued by how it will melt!

Candles From The Keeping Room - Raspberry Cream Filled Twinkies A yummy blend of our sweet twinkie filled with fresh raspberry sauce.
I smell the raspberry sauce and it's yummy but there's that weird plasticky note.

Candles From The Keeping Room - Hot Orange Danish Notes of fresh baked danish, orange zests, and the aroma of drizzled cream frosting.
The orange smells really great in here!

Candles From The Keeping Room - Toasted Marshmallow & Twinkies Twinkies filled with our yummy toasted marshmallow and drizzled with love.
This smells burnt and plasticky, I wonder if it's from the Twinkies because the other Twinkies blend that I have smells the same.

Super Tarts - Honeydew, Strawberry and Creamsicle

A nice, mellow melon blend. It's also a little fizzy! Can't wait to try this one!

Super Tarts - Champagne, Pomegranate, Grapefruit, Rock Candy
This is such a fresh, citrusy, energetic blend! I will enjoy melting this one.

Sassy Girl Aroma - Strawberry Bread
Not a big fan of this one. It smells weird and plastic to me.

Sassy Girl Aroma - Bubblegum Ice Cream Bubblegum blended with rich vanilla ice cream
Smells exactly like a Bazooka gum! Bubblegum is quickly becoming a favourite scent of mine.

Up The Creek - Candy Crush Candy lime, lemon drop and raspberry with juicy notes of orange and red apple sweetened with splashes of pulled sugar and old fashion vanilla.
Such a fun and fruity scent, I am getting lots and lots of citrus!

Up The Creek - Zucchini Noel Surprise
I am getting mostly an almond scent in this chunk, which is unexpected.

Up The Creek - Grape Fluff Blueberry Confetti Cake
The blueberry is the strongest scent note and is so so yummy! It's more of a blueberry jam scent to me. By the way, I now understand why so many people is always in search of a holy grail blueberry scent.

Bit of Bliss - Key Lime Pie
I smell a creamy, zesty lime. I feel energised just sniffing at this!

Bit of Bliss - Lavender, Green Tea, Grapefruit
This was one of my favourites of the haul. I love to drink green tea and this is the first green tea scent that I have seen in wax form. I like how these three scents were blended together, perfect for a mellow night.

Bit of Bliss - Grape, Cotton Candy, Jelly Beans
The Jelly Beans scent is a little too overpowering in here. There's also a plastic note coming through.

Rosegirls - Love Potion No. 9 Mystery blend of Love Spell and pomegranate blizzard.
My first ever Rosegirls! I think I might hoard this until I know when my Assorted Sampler is going to ship! Both the Love Spell and pomegranate blizzard scents I am not familiar with, and I have no idea what I am supposed to smell here except for some creaminess.

Vintage Chic Scents - Jackie O Marshmallow, birthday cake and Vanilla Bean Noel
So sweet!

Sugar & Spice - Banana Funnel Cake & Waffle Cones
I immediately think of Banana Bread when I smell this one, I can actually smell that tart scent  of the cooked Banana flesh. I like it more than I thought I would!
