Haul | Super Tarts (2)

I finally made my second Super Tarts order, I have been tempted many times during their regular clamshell restocks but I was always a few scents short of an order worth the shipping. When Brandy announced that she would be putting together a Lavender Sample, I knew I wouldn't be passing this one up. Several scents in this sampler have been getting lots of rave reviews and I am so happy to finally get to try it.

Data Lavender Cream, Pear Slices and Sugar Cookies
This is a surprising scent, I didn't think that a lavender scent can be classified as creamy and bakery, but there you are. There is hint of citrus contributed by the pear beneath the cream.

Donatello Lavender Cream and Honeydew Melon
Another surprising blend that somehow works. I find the Honeydew Melon note stronger than the Lavender, it's very juicy too!

Galactus Lavender, Raspberry Sorbet and Lovespell
This is a really sweet and unique blend. I can't quite describe it, not sure if I like this either.

Go To Sleep Lavender Cream and Pink Sugar
Great sleepytime scent! I am not surprised that this is such a popular scent.

Lavender Orange Dream Sweet Lavender mixed with our Orange Sherbet
Love this one! The Orange Sherbet is so sprightly and energetic. While stronger than the Lavender, I can still detect it.

Magneto Lavender, Strawberry Jam, Vanilla Buttercream
Unfortunately this has that stuffy-plasticky scent to it, I am guessing it's coming from the Strawberry scent. Which is surprising because ST's Strawberry scent is very popular.

Ravenclaw Blue Raspberry and Lavender
I can see why this is such a popular scent. The sweet Lavender smooths out the sharp acidity of the Blue Raspberry and they blend well together.

Sentinal Herbal Lavender, Blackberry Preserves, Marshmallow
Yummy, the Blackberry Preserves is the star here. I don't get much of the Herbal Lavender for now. I just can't get over how good the Blackberry scent is!

Spock Lavender Blueberry Cheesecake
One of my favourites of this sampler, like Sentinal, the Blueberry Cheesecake scent is the strongest and so good. Probably the best Blueberry scent I have ever sniffed. But unlike Sentinal, the Lavender emerges underneath and blends really well with the Blueberry Cheesecake.

Thanos Herbal Lavender Buds and Whipped Cream
Another favourite for its simplicity and deliciousness. This is the type of Lavender scent I would melt nightly to relax and fall asleep to.

Wax Notes | April 2015 (2)

Happy Labour Day! Phew, it's been a long and tiring two weeks but I finally get a bit of a break this weekend. It's a three-day weekend for me. I don't have much plans but I am going to cobble some stuff up because I need to get out of my room and get some fresh air!

There seems to be a lot of sales and openings this weekend, I hope everyone is going to get in on the action! I am planning to try my luck again for the Candles From The Keeping Room opening, going to start on my list after this. My Super Tarts Lavender Sampler was just delivered and I am looking forwards to sniffing that! I also got in my hauls from Enchanted Candle Co. and Two Timing Tart, they are amazing and I am going to start working on blog posts for them. Any new waxy goodies for you too?

Lemon Marshmallow (Ten Digit Creations)
Ohmygosh, why have I not melted this scent before, it is so good. That zesty, fresh, ooey, gooey lemon melds so well with marshmallow. I was afraid that marshmallow would be too sweet but it isn't. Medium high throw, medium high impact.

Raspberry Jam, Strawberry Preserves, Grape Jelly (Sniff My Tarts)
This scent is so ridiculously fruity, it just makes me smile! One of the strongest scents on cold sniff but it was just alright heated up. Medium high throw, medium impact.

Lemon + Birthday Bash (Tiffany Candles)
This tiny sample from Tiffany's threw like a beast. I had the door to my office closed and I was out for a meeting when I started melting it. I came back, opened the door and the scent just hit me with a blast! It also started pumping out to the rest of the lounge and scented up the entire space. High throw, medium high impact. The scent itself is really good, very reminiscent of fruit loops!

Frosty Pine / Peppermint / Pink Sugar (SMT)
This is a chunk gifted to me by the lovely Julie J. I had admired her sheet cake of this scent blend when she posted about her SMT haul on her blog and I was so happy to find a chunk in her RAOK to me, among other awesome stuff!

Bodacious Bowser (Rosegirls)
A non-traditional take on a green apple scent. I like to sniff it because it's so unique and I want to figure it out. Probably not one I would order in a bag. Medium high throw, medium impact.

Mandarin Oranges, Pomegranate, Satsuma (Sniff My Tarts)
With this scent, I was hoping for energetic citrus, it was more of mild, soothing citrus due to the mellowness and sweetness of the pomegranate. Medium throw, medium impact.

Champagne Pomegranate, Grapefruit, Rock Candy (Super Tarts)
Sweet and candy-ish. This scent didn't make much of an impression on me though, the throw was medium to light and didn't last very long. :(

Lavender Apple (Ten Digit Creations)
Even though TDC advertises this as a blend of lavender and apple, it's stronger on the apple with a underlying bed of lavender. Perfect for a mellow day. Medium throw, medium impact.

Wax Notes | Jan 2015 (1)

New year, new melts! This fortnight, I might have melted the most scents ever. I am so glad to be getting back in the swing of things, and it goes without saying I really need to make a dent in my wax melts collection. Can you believe that melts from my first few 2014 orders have yet to be used up yet? Those are definitely the priority when I select what to put on.

Are you waiting on any orders? I am waiting on one outstanding order with SMT, I was in the second opening group so I am not sure when it will get to my name on the list. I am at once impatient to receive my order (because there are some custom scent blends I did and I am excited to find out if they smell good) and dreading for my name to be called (because that's when I am giving myself permission to make a couple of orders but I really need to use up what I have!). Am I even making sense? I hope I am!

Gardenia Coconut Cream (The Bathing Garden)
I wonder why didn't I melt this sooner, it's a lovely, creamy, sweet floral scent! I can smell the slight nuttiness of the coconut but it really is very subtle and acts as great foil to the gardenia. Loving this one! High throw on this one.

Daydreamer (Two Timing Tart)
An unusual, fresh grass type scent. I put it off for awhile because it smelled very green but it really wasn't so bad. But not something I am into right now. Who knows maybe my scent preferences will change in a few months.

Duchess' Apple Rose Tarte (The Bathing Garden)
This was the sample from my second order with TBG. I finally got around to chopping it up a few days ago (procrastinator, much!). Fruity-floral scents are totally up my alley and I liked this very much. The apple is made heavier and more sensual by the rose, this is a great scent to melt in the evenings as you wind down. On first melt: medium throw, strong scent impact. On second melt: low throw, medium scent impact.

Sun-Ripened Raspberry (Super Tarts)
I like how this scent manages to evoke the feeling of the "sun" by not allowing the raspberry scent to be too sweet and juicy. There is a small tinge of sour/bitter that makes me think that I could be biting into this raspberry right in the fields.

Alice in Lavenderland (The Bathing Garden)
Basic, herbal, sweet lavender. On first melt: medium throw and scent impact. Didn't last beyond a second melt.

Serendipity Spell (Crabby Candle Co.)
I like this scent, it's sweet and pleasant, with a touch of grape fruitness. I melted the whole tart in the whole office and the throw was incredibly high. My door opens out to a lounge of sorts and it was scenting up the entire lounge too!

That One Night At Summer Camp (Two Timing Tart)
Very sweet, marshmallow scent but it isn't cloying. On first melt: medium throw and scent impact.

Orange Marmalade (The Bathing Garden)
This is a really great scent, smells exactly like orange marmalade and I am really enjoying the energy of it. Medium-high throw, medium scent impact. However, the throw is inconsistent, sometimes it's spread well, sometimes I can barely scent it.

Tropical Twist (Glitterati Candle Co.)
Not as tropical fruity as I would expect from its name but it's still an uplifting citrus blend, probably blended with mangoes and a slight bite of ginger? High scent throw and strong scent impact. Like the Crabby tart a few above, it scented the hall outside my office. The crazy thing that it's probably only 1/4 of the Crabby tart and it's performing at the same intensity. It only lasted two melts.

Lavender Mint (Ten Digit Creations)
Medium-high throw, medium scent impact. A little lighter on throw than I expected for TDC. but with a scent like that, I don’t mind that it’s not as strong otherwise it would be overpowering. A very nice herbal lavender, the mint blends wells with it. Sometimes I get a hint of soap. definitely a repurchase.

Livin' La Vida Juicy (Glitterati Candle Co.)
I really like how the vanilla musk transforms an otherwise straight-forward fruity scent to something a little more mysterious and sexy. I would love to get more of this scent if I ever get on the customs order list.

Sweet Lolli (Super Tarts)
Fun, sweet, candy scent. It reminds me of fruity Mentos! Super high scent throw and high scent impact, something I have come to expect from Super Tarts.

Wax Notes | Dec 2014

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! I hope you have happy plans for tonight, whatever it may be, a night out on the town or a cozy evening in with your loved ones. :)

I was really busy this December, preparing for an incredibly packed calendar of events for January. So rather than making two wax notes posts as I usually do, I got lazy and decided to just keep the posts running for the rest of the month. You don't mind, right? :)

You might notice as you scroll down this post that my cream warmer has suffered a little mishap. I was trying to knock out a particularly troublesome piece of wax when I got a little too enthusiastic and a chunk of the ceramic was broken off as well. Now it looks like someone took a chomp out of it!

Tuscan Fields (Thirty Street Wax)
Wow! This tart has barely melted and it's begin to throw like crazy! Sweet yet clean and green scent. Very slightly acidic but in a pleasant way. It also has a syrupy sweet quality to it. I love complex blends like these!

Zucchini Noel Surprise (Up The Creek)
I probably should have cut this chunk up in half but I was lazy and I wanted to test out the theory about small and large chunks and how it affects throw. My conclusion is less is more! I decided to melt this on a cool, rainy night and it was the perfect, mellow blend of sweet and spice for me. The throw was medium to medium-high but it didn't last beyond two tealights.

Blue Sugar Gin Martini (Two Timing Tart)
I am melting an entire 2oz cup but there is barely any scent. From what I can sniff, it's an interesting alcoholic blend. I would drink this. Hee!

Sinus Relief (Tiffany Candles)
This wax tarts from Tiffany's came just in time, I have been really congested today and after popping this in, I can feel my nose clearing! Refreshing! My mother claims she can smell this clear across the hall from my room into hers, which makes this wax very very high throwing indeed.

Candy Crush (Crabby Candle Co.)

To my nose, this is a sweet grape candy-like scent but with a twist - a little caramel sweetness mixed in. It's pleasant but not a scent that grabs me. Medium scent throw.

Candy Crush (Up The Creek)
I thought it would be interesting to melt two identically named scents in succession to find out if they might be the same scent oil. I think they might be the same but UTC's is slightly fruitier. This is a sweet fruity scent, not citrusy. Medium scent throw.

Pina Colada (Super Tarts) - Not pictured, I forgot to take a picture!
Weirdly, I keep thinking of cookies while it was melting. But I can also detect yummy, tropical pineapples and rum! I have come to associate Super Tarts with a high scent throw initially but it peters out later.

Just A Head Cold (Enchanted)
I had a really bad sneeze that day and I needed to try this out in hopes that it will help clear my stuffed up nose and throat. I am not sure if I am really stuffed up or the throw isn't very strong. But when it does get in my nose, I can feel it just go down my lungs! The second night I melted this, I decided I was definitely congested, the throw was incredibly strong!

Wax Notes | Nov 2014 (1)

Hello!

I have been away for a little while, haven't I? It's been a busy last few weeks for me, I went on a solo vacation to Kaohsiung, Taiwan (an amazing experience), catching up on work and attending training courses. I almost forgot it was time to put up this fortnightly melts post. So rest assured, I am still here and melting! Confession: I cheated a little, I included a couple melts that were started before 1 Nov.

So is everyone making big plans for Black Friday / Small Business Saturday sales? I am hoping to make a few orders, my last for the year, and I would like for them to be vendors I have yet to try. I am hoping for Tiffany Candles, I Heart Wax, K's Kreations, Sugar & Spice or Streetman's. What about you?

Capriolo (Crabby Candle Company)
This was one of the favourites of my order with Crabby and it really is fantastic during the melting! It's an airy, fruity scent and while the scent reminds me of lychees, it makes my colleague think of raspberries! I am always amused at the different reactions from my colleagues when I melt in the office. It's fun!

Toasted Marshmallow & Twinkies (CFTKR)
I was a little worried about this scent because my cold sniff impression include a burnt note but when melted, it's just marshmallow through and through. A consistent high-thrower!

Fall Berry (Glitterati Candle Co.)
I like this combination of green leaves and cranberry! A very pleasant, natural scent. I wonder if Fall really does smell like this? And don't underestimate this tiny sample, there's actually a lot more wax than it seems. Throw is medium to medium-high

Citrus Explosion (Super Tarts)
What the name says, a huge swirl of citrus scents! I can't pick any specific one out and I really don't care too! I just like how energising and uplifting this is.

Raspberry Cream Filled Twinkies (CFTKR)
Oh my, the raspberry scent is absolutely delicious in here, I can almost imagine biting into a treat like this with Raspberry cream squirting out! It is so good!

Mad Hatter's Tea Party (The Bathing Garden)
I smell neither mint nor tea distinctly but there is a rather pleasant and soothing lime scent. Very weird but very nice too. Medium low scent throw.

Wax Notes | September 2014 (2)

Sunnee (of the amazing Fragrance Obsessed blog) once mentioned how difficult it was to start posts like these. Usually I mention whether this was a good or bad fortnight but it can get kind of awkward. For once, I have something legit to talk about. I love my new tart warmer! I love how deep and wide the dish, I don't have to cut up bigger chunks or worry that the wax will overflow. And I can also blend leftover pieces from different chunks together! LOVE!

Watermelon / Strawberry Kiwi Sorbet / Raspberry Guava (Sniff My Tarts)
I might be starting an SMT kick this month because SMT is going to open up for an order in October and I want to be ready for it by trying out the chunks I already have! Scent throw is good and strong with SMT. With three types of scents going into a blend, it's a bit difficult to pick apart the scents but I think the watermelon has an edge over the sweet fruitiness of the strawberry and the raspberry.

Mango Sorbet / Tangerine / Strawberry Daiquiri (Sniff My Tarts)
This is fun, fruity scent, I really like the tangerine in here and I need to start thinking up possible blends with these. The scent throw is surprisingly weak, medium at best, and I am melting a huge chunk. :( However, longevity is pretty amazing, been melting this through 4 tealights

Pink Sugar Milk (CFTKR)
A little wary of this combination because I am not sure about the milky scent note but it's pretty good. The milk note isn't sour at all and really helps to tone down the sickly sweetness of Pink Sugar. The throw is amazing as well, throwing right out of my bedroom doors.

Blue Sugar Lavender Martini (Two Timing Tart)
I like this scent, it's mostly blue sugar but the underlying lavender is so pretty! I can't distinguish between blue sugar and martini because both have a sour note to it. The throw is really weird on this, sometimes it's medium high, sometimes I can barely smell it.

Cucumber Mint + Spearmint + Honeydew Ya (Super Tarts)
It's crazy hot today and I really wanted something fruity and minty so I decided to mix these three together! I think this three scents went very well together, although poor Spearmint got a bit drowned out because it was the smallest chunk of the trio, would have loved to get more. Excellent throw as usual with Super Tarts' wax, it's on its third tealight and still going strong. My Mum is loving this combination and she's been making noises about wanting to melt in her room too, of course, I am thrilled! More wax to burn and buy! Haha!

Bliss (Crabby Candle Co.)
Despite the scent description of lemon, sage, chamomile and rosewater, I really only get the lemon and sage. It's a very sharp lemon, almost veering on cleaning detergent lemon. I am definitely disappointed that the chamomile and rosewater wasn't apparent.

Wax Notes | September 2014 (1)

From such an amazing fortnight to a rather dismal one. I have been feeling under the weather and my nose has been blocked more often than not. I have been mainly melting my BBW Twisted Peppermint candle to help unsnuff my nose but really it isn't strong enough. I am going to have get myself some Sinus Relief scents from a vendor, anyone has any suggestions?

Greased Lightning (Rosegirls)
I am not feeling too well and decided to indulge myself in some waxy goodness so I popped a whole chunk rather than cutting it up as I would probably have done. I am enjoying most of it, it's a sweet strawberry bakery scent and I love that snatches of strawberry jam in the air. I can see why so many people love Rosegirls' bakery. Who knows I might be a convert to bakery. :)

Red Velvet Cake (Ten Digit Creations)
Ugh. I totally hate this scent. It's a really weird chocolate scent. However, the strength throw is very good. As I have been saying, TDC's tarts last a long time so buy with ease!

Hello Sweetie (Two Timing Tart)
This is the new wax formula and it's throwing medium high. TTT performs very well for me and I am looking forward to ordering from them again once I finish up my stash.

Violet Mojito (Two Timing Tart)
Man oh man, this one is so strong that I had to turn it off. The violet scent is more clean than floral and definitely overpowers any hint of mojito.

Wax Notes | August 2014 (2)

This has definitely been my most productive melting fortnight to date, although to be fair, many of them were older tarts and I have discovered that while Super Tarts throws like crazy, it doesn't last very long.

Pumpkin Buttercream (Front Porch)
I was digging through my basket of destash wax when I found this super old piece of wax from 2011! Tossed it into the warmer immediately to use it up. There is actually still some scent left, I smell spicy pumpkin. It didn't last very long or throw very well (medium at best) but I can't complain.

Toasted Almond Butter Cookies (Ten Digit Creations)
Another older tart from 2012 but in contrast to Front Porch, TDC's wax is still holding the scent really well and throwing like crazy! I can totally smell toasted almond and butter cookies and it's making me hungry!

Cucumber Mint (Super Tarts)
This scent is so strong! I had taken this out in preparation to bring to work next week but when I left my room for the day and came home, it was the first scent that I smelled! Isn't that crazy? I popped half into my warmer since it was already floating around. It's a very perfumey cucumber, something you smell in a body lotion than a fresh cucumber in a salad. I don't get much mint but this is a very cooling scent, perfect for warmer days. My mother is absolutely loving this one too! The scent throw is kick-me-in-the-face strong! Like the previous ST I melted, I noticed it isn't very long-lasting. By the third tea light, there wasn't much scent left. This is so pretty though, I love how the blue and yellow melds almost ombre-like! I am now kicking myself for not melting my ST more and getting in on their restocks!

Honeydew Ya (Super Tarts)
A really authentic honeydew scent, such a sweet-fruity scent! So I noticed that Super Tarts does better in higher wattages. The throw was amazing in my tealight warmer but much weaker in my 11w hotplate.

The Sound of Drums (Two Timing Tart)
What an interesting variant of a Serendipity scent, this one is mixed with Dragon's Blood and it totally transforms Serendipity into a sexy, musky scent. I find the coconut more pronounced in this blend as well.

Nod and Dream (Enchanted Candle Co.)
I am thinking very hard about whether I should hit up the upcoming Enchanted re-opening (by the way, I think you totally should!), there's so many scents that I want to try! There's a couple of scents on the list that I already have so I pulled them out to try. Nod and Dream is from the Mary Poppins collection and is such a pretty purple colour. It's definitely a soapy lavender (I prefer herbal lavender) underlayered with vanilla sweetness and chamomile softness. The throw is amazingly strong, it's going right out of the room with only half a tart!

Vanilla Shake (Ten Digit Creations)
This is an old piece so no comments about its throw. Contrary to what I was expecting, this is a nutty and musky vanilla to my nose. I really like it, too bad it's discontinued!

Day at the Spa (Crabby Candle Co)
Definitely a scent for bad/sick day, the lemongrass is very strong on this one but it's definitely spa-like rather than bug repellant-like. The throw is about a medium-low. It really is a pity that Crabby Candle seems to have gone on hiatus. I like most of the scents I have melted and they perform very well for me.

Banana Caramel Cupcake (Ten Digit Creations)
The scent throw is pretty weak but for an older tart, if there's a throw, that's good enough for me. It smells exactly like banana bread which I actually like! That fades later and becomes a syrupy spicy scent.

Fruit Loops (Front Porch Candle Co.)
An oldie but a goodie!
