Wax Notes | Feb 2016 (1)

I meant to upload this post at the mid-point of the month as per usual but somehow I forgot and I thought I had. When I realised it wasn't done yet, I figured I would just do one post this month since I melted a little lesser in the second half, due to a bad week and that I will be in Hong Kong for a quick vacation by the time you read this!

Apple Pie (Sniff My Tarts)
Love this Apple Pie scent! It's spicier than sweet and I really enjoyed this one. Lucky for me, I have more of it! Medium scent throw, medium scent impact.

Sugar Milk (Ten Digit Creations) - Not pictured
Low performer. Barely any scent. But when I go near to my warmer, I do smell a sweet milk scent.

Miss Frosty (K's Kreation)
I still don't know what this scent is about. There is a slight eucalyptus note and maybe some pink sugar? Medium low throw, medium low scent impact.

Apple Colada (Rosegirls) - Not pictured
Fruity fun! Super high throw, medium scent impact.

Sugar Cookie Fruit Loops (Two Timing Tart)
The sugar cookie scent note really amps up the fruit loops and lends a touch of warmth to the blend. Very nice and perfect for a rainy, cool night. Medium scent throw, medium high scent impact.

Citrus Noel (Enchanted Candle Co.)
You can never go wrong with Enchanted's throw. I always put this on when we have company at home! The noel scent is very very sweet and the stronger note of the two. But I do detect a tinge of acidity from the citrus just slightly toning down the VBN. Very high throw, high scent impact.

Rainforest Sugarcane Type (Candles From The Keeping Room)
I am really liking this scent. It is such a well-blended scent of the various notes that all I can think of is fresh, sweet greens. Usually, green scents tend to be very strong but this is so subtle and soft. Medium throw, medium scent impact.

Pink Peppermint (Tiffany Candles)
A popular scent blend for a reason. Medium high throw, medium scent impact

Mandarin & Lime (Candles From The Keeping Room)
Surprisingly, this blend is a lot mellower than I thought. I wish it was a lot more acidic to live up to its name. Medium high throw, medium impact.

Blissful Blackberry Type (Candles From The Keeping Room)
I really like this scent. I learnt that it's a BBW dupe of sweet blackberry and soft florals. It's definitely more floral than fruity so if you don't like the former, this might not be what you think it is. But I really like, it's sweet and light. So despite high throw, it's not overpowering. Medium impact.

Wax Notes | Jan 2016 (1)

This two weeks have been an absolutely bonkers for me! I worked more 15-hour days and weekends that I would have liked. And it's not going to get any easier for the rest of the month. So despite all of that, I am surprised that I managed to melt as much as I did, which goes to show I should never use busyness as a excuse for not melting! How about you, how was your January?

Alice in Wonderland (Rosegirls)
I am not sure if I like this scent now that I am melting it. It's pleasant but it doesn't get me excited. Medium high scent throw, medium scent impact.

Surfer Girl (Vintage Chic Scents)
The strongest notes I am smelling is the coconut and the graham cracker crust. It's quite yummy and today is a rainy day which calls for a comforting scent. To be honest, whenever I pick up Surfer Girl, I keep thinking it's a fresh, marine scent from its name but then I sniff it and I put it down because of the graham cracker. But I really need to melt my VCS stash because I have had them for 1.5 years (omg, that long!). Medium scent throw, medium scent impact.

Creamy Fruit Slices (Tiffany Candles)
I wanted something energising for my first office melt of the year so I picked this one. It was just right, citrusy enough to jazz up my mood but mellow enough to ease back into the work week after a four-day weekend! High scent throw, medium scent impact.

Lavender Cream (Candles From The Keeping Room)
I was surprised by the initial candy sweetness that this scent pumped out first. I had left the room for a bath when I started the melt. But later it becomes a good ol' herbal lavender that really gets into your lungs when you take a deep breath. Really nice! Medium high throw, medium high scent impact.

Sea Salt & Rice Flower (Ten Digit Creations)
Really liked this scent, it was just the right amount of salty, fresh and sweet. It also wasn't as "heavy" a scent as I thought it would be. Medium throw, medium scent impact. Longevity of the scent was shorter than I expected from a TDC tart.

Lazy Summer Days (Vintage Chic Scents)
I am rather surprised at the performance of this VCS wax, the power of it was much weaker than I had come to expect of VCS. I could smell very little of this scent, The most of it being a sweet honeydew. Low throw, medium scent impact. [Oops, labelled the picture wrongly! Sunny Days is an RG scent!]

Sea Berry (Ten Digit Creations)
A fairly nondescript marine scent. I thought the berries scent note would be stronger and mix with the marine note but it's not really happening. I can see why this scent is leaving the TDC line-up. Medium high throw, medium high scent impact. (EDIT: On second melt, the sweet berry scent is coming through more strongly and it's really a very nice scent.)

Bubblegum Ice Cream (Sassy Girl Aroma)
I didn't detect any bubblegum scent, maybe because this piece of wax is pretty old? I remember thinking that it sounds like fruit loops though which is kind of weird. Lol! Medium throw, low scent impact.

Wax Notes | Nov & Dec 2015

Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas!
Happy Thanksgiving!

All my holidays greetings to you that I missed earlier because I have pretty much lost my blogging and melting mojo. It is a little hard to blog when there is nothing to blog about. I will be back for a little bit in the next few weeks because I broke my NO-BUY during the Black Friday for Pocket Full of Peonies (a newish vendor) and Tiffany Candles (couldn't resist a restock). So yay, hauls!

Green Tea & Willow (Ten Digit Creations)
If the colour green had a scent, I would this would be it. It smells fresh and sweet in a natural way. This is a scent for spring or if you are in the mood for spring!

Annette's Secret Sangria (K's Kreations)

Blackberry Cotton Candy Wafflecone (Rosegirls)

Clementine Lavender (CFTKR)
I thought it would be a softer scent but it's rather sharp and sometimes I think ginger when I get a sniff. Medium throw, medium scent impact.

Twisted Lemon (Ten Digit Creations) - Not Pictured
A more acidic lemon scent, it energises me when I sniff this. Medium throw, medium scent impact.

Peppermint Meringue (Ten Digit Creations) - Not Pictured
Heavier on the meringue than the peppermint. Medium high throw, medium scent impact. Surprisingly this tart lost its scent really quickly. Generally, TDC lasts 2-3 melts for me.

Singing in the Rain (Rosegirls)
You know what, I don't think I care what is really in the blend. All I care about is that it's lovely and I never want to be out of it!

Bailey's in Bed (Crabby Candle Co.)
Creamy and just sweet enough to qualify this as bakery, this is one of the few bakery type scents that I can tolerate. It's not outright boozy but it does suggest that this is an adult scent. Medium scent throw, medium scent impact.

Christmas Cookies (Tiffany Candles)

Lavender (Tiffany Candles) - Not Pictured
I really loved this rendition of Lavender by Tiffany Candles. It's very different from other Lavender scents I have tried so far. Much more herbal, less sweet. Medium scent impact, medium high scent throw.

Vanilla Nutmeg (Thirty Street Crafts)
I was looking for something not-bright and not-fruity and I reached for this one. The vanilla is just sweet enough to temper the nutmeg down to mellow. Beautiful this one. High scent impact, medium high scent throw. This scent really lingers in your space and it lasts forever. I think I must have melted it 4 times at least and the scent barely weakened!

Gabi's Melonade Stand (Enchanted Candle Company)
Loving this scent. It's much more mellow a lemonade scent than you would think and I think it's due to the sweetness of the watermelon. Lovely! So sad I won't be able to get more. High scent throw, high scent impact.

Delicate Daisy (Rosegirls)
This scent was ridiculously perfume-y sweet that I had to switch off my warmer several times in between to breath a little. Definitely not for me. Medium throw, medium impact.

Over The Moon (Rosegirls)
An unmemorable scent, I think it was sweet.

Avocado & Sea Salt (Ten Digit Creations)
Don't let the name of the scent scare you away, this is primarily a marine-based scent with hints of sweetness coming through at times (the scent notes includes grapefruit and rose). I feel that the avocado helps to mellow the sharpness that marine scents can get. High scent throw, medium scent impact.

Haul | Candles From The Keeping Room (1)

I am really happy to finally be able to place a Candles From The Keeping Room order. It took me several tries before this successful order! In fact, I feel that Rosegirls might be easier to get than CFTKR! I can see why they are so popular, the scent on cold sniff is fantastic, strong and true to the description!

Amazing Grace Type Italian bergamot and sparkling lemons are sweetened with freshly picked citron and neroli. A white floral jasmine, orange blossom and rose are blended with sheer musk and cedarwood.
This one is light on cold sniff. I don't smell the Amazing Grace scent for now.

Apple Grove A perfect combination of Cameo, Macintosh, Red Delicious, Fuji and Granny Smith apples.

Baby Grace Type A fresh accord combining feminine notes of mimosa flowers, poppy, pepper, white woods, fresh greenery and musk.
This smells exactly like the perfume. So beautiful!

Cherry Blossoms Fresh orange top notes sweeten this lush white floral bouquet. Forest ferns adds a natural sensation as light green tones balance the bouquet. Warm woods and a hint of musk warm the floral accord.
This is fairly light on cold throw. Hopefully it's better on warm.

Jade A blend of sweet jasmine, white lilies and violets; middle notes of lavender, rose combined with a delicate touch of sun ripened pineapple; bottom notes of fresh apple and fresh green melon.
Clean, green flora bouquet. It's sweet and fresh!

Lavender Mint
I love how herbal and just purely lavender this is. Fantastic!

Nectarine & Honey A sumptuous blend of nectarine, honey and delicate white florals. Fragrant rose and fresh air musks add to the calming serenity.
This is such a beautiful scent, the honey scent is very much stronger than the nectarine, but the fizziness of the nectarine sneaks in and makes itself known.

Sea Salt & Yuzu Notes of Satsuma orange, ruby red grapefruit, Japanese yuzu, Mediterranean sea salt, sun-kissed apricot, ripe nectarine, blue water lotus and aloe leaf.
I put this in my cart as I was going through the categories quickly while the site was open. I am so glad I bought it, it's a very elegant citrus, highlighted by that hint of salt. I can't wait to melt this.

Even though I watched all the youtube videos and read all the blog posts of CFTKR hauls, I was still a little taken aback at how many samples Carol provided. What she gave is comparable to some of the hauls I have made with other companies! I am also excited with what she picked out for me, these are scents that I definitely want to try!

Biolage Matrix Top notes of forest fresh green leaves and lemon zests, and well rounded with fruity notes of peaches, apples, and pineapples.
As a shampoo scent, I thought this would be very soapy but it's sweeter and fresher in real life. I love this!

Blissful Blackberry Type
I think this might be a BBW dupe. I am surprised that it's not more fruity and have a better blackberry scent note. Hopefully it will be better upon melting.

Champagne Pear Type Sparkling champagne with the fresh scent of a ripe juicy pear.
A very spritzy scent. I don't particularly distinguish both scents but like it's light, bubbly and energetic.

Clementine Lavender
This scent is right up my alley! The clementine is stronger than the lavender, juicy and citrusy but the lavender lingers after.

Green Figs Crisp Meyer lemons add a tangy twist to rich fig notes, while precious pomegranate seeds permeate the heart of this exotic citrus scent.
A pleasant, green type scent.

Green Tea Blend
This is a beautiful, fresh scent and I love it! I am also getting clean, citrus notes in there.

Lavender Cream Peppermint
Oh so good, sweet, relaxing and minty! I would totally buy a huge bag of this scent!

Mandarin Lime Fresh mandarin oranges to energise your spirit, and fresh lime to improve your mood.
I am kind of wondering if this might have been labelled wrongly, I don't really smell any Mandarin or any Lime in this scent.

Rain Forest Sugarcane An intriguing mixture that includes fresh lime, raw sugarcane and rare vanilla orchid, and a fabulous blend of Hawaiian hibiscus, pineapple, blood orange, palm grass, lemon mint and Kona sugarloaf.
Such a complicated blend on paper but it all comes together in a soft, sweet, fresh and green type scent. It's really good and if it melts as good as it smells now, I think I will get more of this!

Violets and Birch Green accord, fern, white birch, violet, clove bud, orchid, cedar leaf, musk and amber.
Violets are really overpowering scents to me but I think the Birch tones it down a little with its woodsy notes.

Wax Notes | Nov 2014 (1)

Hello!

I have been away for a little while, haven't I? It's been a busy last few weeks for me, I went on a solo vacation to Kaohsiung, Taiwan (an amazing experience), catching up on work and attending training courses. I almost forgot it was time to put up this fortnightly melts post. So rest assured, I am still here and melting! Confession: I cheated a little, I included a couple melts that were started before 1 Nov.

So is everyone making big plans for Black Friday / Small Business Saturday sales? I am hoping to make a few orders, my last for the year, and I would like for them to be vendors I have yet to try. I am hoping for Tiffany Candles, I Heart Wax, K's Kreations, Sugar & Spice or Streetman's. What about you?

Capriolo (Crabby Candle Company)
This was one of the favourites of my order with Crabby and it really is fantastic during the melting! It's an airy, fruity scent and while the scent reminds me of lychees, it makes my colleague think of raspberries! I am always amused at the different reactions from my colleagues when I melt in the office. It's fun!

Toasted Marshmallow & Twinkies (CFTKR)
I was a little worried about this scent because my cold sniff impression include a burnt note but when melted, it's just marshmallow through and through. A consistent high-thrower!

Fall Berry (Glitterati Candle Co.)
I like this combination of green leaves and cranberry! A very pleasant, natural scent. I wonder if Fall really does smell like this? And don't underestimate this tiny sample, there's actually a lot more wax than it seems. Throw is medium to medium-high

Citrus Explosion (Super Tarts)
What the name says, a huge swirl of citrus scents! I can't pick any specific one out and I really don't care too! I just like how energising and uplifting this is.

Raspberry Cream Filled Twinkies (CFTKR)
Oh my, the raspberry scent is absolutely delicious in here, I can almost imagine biting into a treat like this with Raspberry cream squirting out! It is so good!

Mad Hatter's Tea Party (The Bathing Garden)
I smell neither mint nor tea distinctly but there is a rather pleasant and soothing lime scent. Very weird but very nice too. Medium low scent throw.

Wax Notes | October 2014 (1)

Butt Naked (Crabby Candle Co.)
This is going to be a weird way to describe it, but this is fruity with a hint of mothballs! I hope it isn't the wax going bad but I think I am going to melt my way through my Crabby stash this month, just in case. Not as strong as previous Crabby tarts.

Strawberry Shortcake (Crabby Candle Co.)
Nothing much to shout home about this scent, a very artificial strawberry. On the plus side, the longevity of the wax was about 4 tealights although the throw was rather weak by the fourth one.

Hot Orange Danish (Candles From The Keeping Room)
This is definitely a bakery scent that I like, I know, so rare! I really like how the cream cheese frosting blends so well with the orange citrus scent. Fruity and sweet, very comforting!

Pinky Skittleton (Crabby Candle Co.) - Not pictured.
Sweet like the candy and very strong in throw.

The Sultan's Moroccan Massage Oil (Enchanted Candle Co.)
I am melting this for research, Enchanted is doing their last opening of the year and I am almost sure I am going to be putting in an order with them! Gah, that little mustache is seriously adorable and throwing really well for such a little thing. I keep thinking of talcum powder when I inhale this scent but there's really none of that in the scent description. I am getting a very well-blended rosemary and lavender. The mint is much fainter but it keeps the blend interesting and not too herbal. Definitely need more for relaxing nighttime melting!

Wax Notes | September 2014 (2)

Sunnee (of the amazing Fragrance Obsessed blog) once mentioned how difficult it was to start posts like these. Usually I mention whether this was a good or bad fortnight but it can get kind of awkward. For once, I have something legit to talk about. I love my new tart warmer! I love how deep and wide the dish, I don't have to cut up bigger chunks or worry that the wax will overflow. And I can also blend leftover pieces from different chunks together! LOVE!

Watermelon / Strawberry Kiwi Sorbet / Raspberry Guava (Sniff My Tarts)
I might be starting an SMT kick this month because SMT is going to open up for an order in October and I want to be ready for it by trying out the chunks I already have! Scent throw is good and strong with SMT. With three types of scents going into a blend, it's a bit difficult to pick apart the scents but I think the watermelon has an edge over the sweet fruitiness of the strawberry and the raspberry.

Mango Sorbet / Tangerine / Strawberry Daiquiri (Sniff My Tarts)
This is fun, fruity scent, I really like the tangerine in here and I need to start thinking up possible blends with these. The scent throw is surprisingly weak, medium at best, and I am melting a huge chunk. :( However, longevity is pretty amazing, been melting this through 4 tealights

Pink Sugar Milk (CFTKR)
A little wary of this combination because I am not sure about the milky scent note but it's pretty good. The milk note isn't sour at all and really helps to tone down the sickly sweetness of Pink Sugar. The throw is amazing as well, throwing right out of my bedroom doors.

Blue Sugar Lavender Martini (Two Timing Tart)
I like this scent, it's mostly blue sugar but the underlying lavender is so pretty! I can't distinguish between blue sugar and martini because both have a sour note to it. The throw is really weird on this, sometimes it's medium high, sometimes I can barely smell it.

Cucumber Mint + Spearmint + Honeydew Ya (Super Tarts)
It's crazy hot today and I really wanted something fruity and minty so I decided to mix these three together! I think this three scents went very well together, although poor Spearmint got a bit drowned out because it was the smallest chunk of the trio, would have loved to get more. Excellent throw as usual with Super Tarts' wax, it's on its third tealight and still going strong. My Mum is loving this combination and she's been making noises about wanting to melt in her room too, of course, I am thrilled! More wax to burn and buy! Haha!

Bliss (Crabby Candle Co.)
Despite the scent description of lemon, sage, chamomile and rosewater, I really only get the lemon and sage. It's a very sharp lemon, almost veering on cleaning detergent lemon. I am definitely disappointed that the chamomile and rosewater wasn't apparent.

Wax Notes | August 2014 (1)

A pretty, productive fortnight of melting. I have been working at finishing my Front Porch and Two Timing Tart stash (my oldest orders) to make way for my incoming orders. And I also really need an excuse to buy more from Two Timing Tart. Heehee!

Tropical Sugar (CFTKR)
Not a scent that immediately grabs me but it's pleasant enough since it's a sweet fruity vanilla. More emphasis on the vanilla and sweetness with little flashes of citrus. Like everyone knows, CFTKR throws really well!

Cotton Candy Apple Bread (Front Porch Candle Co.)
One of my favourite FP scent notes is Apple. I find it a little more perfume-y than a true fruity apple. If they ever had an Apple sampler, I am definitely grabbing one for myself. In this blend, the apple stands out against a sweet, bread-y background. My colleagues actually commented that it reminds them of pandan cake! And I can definitely see why they would think that. It's really interesting how different noses pick out or combine scents to smell different things!

White Tea & Mango (Crabby Candle Co.)
An elegant take on a fruity scent. I am really enjoying this! Scent throw is pretty decent. And I could smell the mango scent after three days of melting (about 8-10 hours each day).

Butterfly Kisses (Front Porch Candle Co.)
FP's Apple always seems to be strongest scent in any blending. I am not sure if I am complaining about it though because while I love apple, I would also like to sniff the blend that it's part of.
